Once a sewing table, now a novel writing desk

This Marketplace find came without a sewing machine but all the lovely details. I wanted to convert it into a writing desk, to celebrate its sewing heritage, and to add a spark of surprise and delight✨

Mood Boards

#3 was the fan favorite but unfortunately, upon further investigation, the majority of the piece was made of particle board so all that staining wasn’t an option. So I went with my favorite - #1!

Linked Supplies

Stainable wood filler - I have used a number of wood fillers, and this is my favorite by far. It accepts stains really well and it’s super creamy- none of that grit some fillers have.
Putty knife
Sanding block - used these to smooth out the wood filler. The blocks in this set have their level of grit written on the ends. So convenient🙌
Orbital sander
Sanding discs
Rags - you’ll want a box of these on hand to help you throughout a flip like this
Tack cloth - I always wipe my pieces down with one of these before staining. It gets all the little bits of dust and grit left over after sanding. Wiping down with a cloth or paper towel will just move the particles around. This cloth gets it all.
Painter’s tape

Stain:
Chip brush - I use these cheap brushes throughout my furniture flipping process including for pre stain and staining
Pre-stain/wood conditioner - always use this before staining. Read that again. It makes a huge difference.
Stain - I used the color Mocha by Zar

I used BB Frösch’s Expansion kit to tackle this flip but if you just want bits and pieces of the kit, here’s the contents with links to each item’s product page:
Paint Transformer - I’ve been buying the larger jugs of it but it you only need enough for 1 quart of paint you can find that here.
Specialty Paint brush - natural - you get to choose natural or synthetic bristle.
Specialty Wax Brush - synthetic - you get to choose natural or synthetic bristle.
Handmade Brush Conditioning Soap - this stuff is a game changer and a lite saver for your brushes!!
Clear Premium Finishing Wax - I used this on any painted surfaces to protect it from wear and tear
Dark Premium Finishing Wax - I used this on any of the stained areas to help bring out the richness of the color and protect it from wear and tear
8 oz. jar - for convenient paint-mixing or other uses
Wire Mixing Whisk - to mix your powder with water
Wax application wands - they don’t list any on their site but I get my in bulk from Amazon
Reusable Huck Cloth - for convenient and lint-free clean-up and wiping for brushes, hands, spills, etc.
Lint-free 13" square wax cloths

Paint - 1 Quart- Sherwin Williams Showcase- Satin Finish
